UK Finance

From six separate trade bodies to one cohesive organisation in record time

The Challenge

In 2017, six separate financial trade bodies needed to merge into a new entity, UK Finance, to help prevent a repeat of the banking crisis. The process was complicated by Brexit uncertainty and the challenge of creating a unified culture from six different organisations with distinct identities and ways of working.

What We Did

We listened to people across all legacy organisations to understand their concerns and what they valued. We diagnosed the cultural strengths and gaps through comprehensive research. We implemented a collaborative approach - blueprint design for strategy, cultural assessment and development, leadership competency creation, and executive support through PROPHET profiling.

The Change Experience

Rather than having change imposed from above, people experienced the merger as collaborative. The new organisation felt like it genuinely reflected input from all six legacy organisations, not a takeover by one dominant group.

Business Results

Six separate entities became one cohesive organisation in record time, creating the unified voice the financial sector needed. The new culture and values have remained stable and effective since 2017.

"The vision and values have been a fundamental cornerstone of how we have operated as an organisation. They are all pervasive... They've been enduring. This has informed the way we behave – with each other, with our members and with our external stakeholders."
